  • How can we make a tough budget more progressive?
  • How do we prevent inequitable budget cuts?
  • What are refundable tax credits, and are they an answer to reducing inequity?

Join Good Government Illinois’s David Orr, State Representative Robyn Gabel, and Ralph Martire, Executive at the Center Tax and Budget Accountability and Arthur Rubloff Professor of Public Policy at Roosevelt University for a dive into the Illinois State Budget.

Our state budget has been deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the failure of the Fair Tax Amendment means that any tax increases will disproportionately impact lower wage earners across Illinois. Governor JB Pritzker had said that without this amendment, our next budget would incorporate service cuts and tax increases to balance - but the budget he released does neither. What's next for the Illinois state budget?
