Landmark Decision by the Illinois Supreme Court in Provena Covenant Medical Center: Non-Profit Hospitals Must Provide Charity Care in Exchange for Property Tax Exemption

A Fact Sheet on the Illinois Supreme Court's ruling on Provena. The Department of Revenue revoked Provena Covenant Medical Center's tax exempt status because it argued the hospital did not provide sufficient charity care. The ruling upheld the Department of Revenue's decision, and had broad implications fo property tax exemptions and charity care.
