CTBA's Annual Fiscal Symposium, "Moving Forward: Policies to Make Illinois Competitive in a Global Economy", featured Michael Mazerov, Senior Fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington, DC. Mr. Mazerov explained why cutting taxes is not an effective means of boosting economic growth, creating jobs, and enhancing entrepreneurship. Instead, he indicated why states should prioritize investing in education, worker training, public infrastructure and targeted assistance to small business. A panel discussion followed, moderated by Craig Dellimore, Political Editor for WBBM Newsradio 780 AM and 105.9 FM.

Senator Toi Hutchinson will host a town hall to provide an update on the spring legislative session and to discuss budget issues facing the state."As you know, Illinois faces many fiscal challenges, requiring us to evaluate all state spending," Hutchinson said in an email message announcing the meeting.

The meeting will give constituents an opportunity to learn more about the budget process and to "weigh in on the challenges we all face," she said.

Ralph Martire with the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability will give a budget presentation, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions afterward.
