One of the hottest topics in play when Reboot Illinois was founded in 2012 was debate over a possible Illinois progressive tax system.

The progressive tax debate on April 15 roared back into action as Democratic lawmakers proposed two pieces of legislation that, in tandem, would both change the Illinois constitution to allow a graduated-rate tax system and enact a series of tax brackets from 3.5 to 9.75 percent. They have a May 6 deadline to muster three-fifths majorities in the House and Senate to get a constitutional amendment question onto the Nov. 8 ballot.
