CTBA's
9th
Annual Fiscal Symposium Symposium
was held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010,
at the Union League Club of Chicago.
Panelists discussed the economic
effects of Illinois' fiscal
policies, and Illinois' recurring
and substantial budget shortfalls
and have resulted in devastating
cuts to vital public services like
education and social services. These
and other public services play a
significant role in equipping
individuals with the skills and
knowledge necessary to become
economically productive, and in
creating an economic environment in
which good paying, good-benefit jobs
are obtainable. .
David Wilhelm, Founder and
President of Woodland Venture
Management and former Chairman
of the Democratic National
Committee presented the keynote
address.
The
Symposium, moderated by Carol
Marin, Political Columnist for
the Chicago Sun-Times and
host of of WTTW's "Chicago
Tonight", heard from panelists Illinois
Representative Barbara Flynn
Currie, 25th District; Illinois
Representative Will Davis,
30th District; Michael Gelder,
Senior Healthcare Policy
Advisory to Governor Pat Quinn,
Dr. Michael A. Jocoby, Executive
Director, Illinois Association
of School Board Officials; and
James D. Nowlan, Senior Fellow
with the University of Illinois,
Institute of Government and
Public Affairs and an adjunct
professor of public policy at
Knox College.
